Simple Summer Joy

Here is a bit of what we have been up to this sweet, simple, joyful summer!

Emma rode a camel at the zoo... Elizabeth almost rode one, but she got cold feet at the last minute. She gave one of the zoo camels a big wet kiss, though. Wish I had gotten that on camera!

The whole crew at the zoo, minus the picture taking, sweat-dripping, red-faced Mamma, of course.

Bubba-Biscuit is getting so big! He is such a good dog, and makes me feel so much safer, as he barks loud and vicious like whenever anyone is near the back-yard. Good boy, Bubba!
My Young Women had a Temple trip, and we took pictures of all the YW in front of the Temple. We'll frame those pictures for them as gifts, later this year. The girls came with me for this trip (we didn't have a babysitter, with all my family involved in Ward activities, and all my Young Women at the Temple). So while the girls went to their session, we went to a nearby park!
I can't believe I used to think New Mexico was so ugly! I love the beautiful sky, the warmth of the people and the weather, the blessed monsoons during the summer afternoons, the mountains, the Rio Grande, and this beautiful Temple.
The girls outside the Temple, taking their turn in front of the camera. This is the ONLY moment while we were there that one of the YW/YW leaders were not running after one or both of them for me, so I could take pictures!
Emma and Elizabeth both have chores around the house. Elizabeth is especially excited about doing her jobs. She unloads the clean laundry from the washer to the dryer, and unloads the dry laundry from the dryer to my laundry basket, or more usually, to my couch (see prior post).
Walmart here is closing out their sewing/crafts/etc department, and I snagged a bunch of cute little crafty things for cheap, cheap, cheap! We have enough little fun projects to last us all summer, in addition to the crafts Emma is working on to sell for her college fund. (See ETSY store link on the sidebar). These little dinosaurs were .47 cents each, and provide nearly an hour of creativity. The girls just kept painting and painting and painting!

Emma's primary teacher gave here these crafty little paint-them-yourself sun catchers for her birthday. Emma shared with Elizabeth, and they each did two or three of them.
Speaking of Emma's birthday, this is the cake that Caty. C. made for Emma. Emma chose the colors, and the style. Caty makes all kinds of cakes in all kinds of shapes and designs, and sells them to make money for band camp and girls camp. I love, love, love to do cakes, but didn't mind turning it over this year, between the heat, and Caty's talent!
Emma's birthday present from me was a party at Chuck E. Cheese with her best friend Collette. Mom and Dad and Camilla also came, along with Collette's Mom Chris. Here is Elizabeth eating pizza "her" way.
Elizabeth went on this "horkey" ride over a dozen times. She is my daughter! She absolutely loved this. Wonder where I can get one for my own?
Emma and Collette pose for the Chuck E. Cheese cameras. These two met at the daycare we go to, and became best friends. Everyday, they would hold hands, and skip around together, and whisper in each other's ears, and giggle, and laugh, and have so much fun. Then Collette stopped coming! Emma was so very, very sad! I tried finding their number in the phone book and watched for them every time we went to Walmart... the gals who worked at the daycare saw them there every weekend, but we never did! Finally at the end of the year, I talked the owner of the daycare into giving out their phone number, something she wouldn't ordinarily do... Collette had been missing Emma as much as Emma had been missing Collette! You should have seen their faces, and heard their cute little conversations as we drove them to Chuck E. Cheese! Priceless!
Best friends having even more fun at Chuck E. Cheese!

Hope your summer is as magical as ours has been!

I DO Have Two Daughters

Emma has had a lot going on; between her birthday celebration and other little things she is doing, she has kind of taken over my posts. It might look like she is my favored child. Though I deeply adore my Emma Lou, this one has captured my heart, and I am unable to resist her smile, her giggle, and her constant pleas for, oh, anything!

She is passionate; everything she does is with loud laughter or screaming, with tight hugs and fervent kisses. She is independent; there is literally not an hour that goes by without her saying "No, I do it myself!" She is sassy, sweet, sneaky and silly. She keeps me laughing and on my toes

She wakes up at night and snuggles into my arms for "Cuddles peas, Momma." She sneaks into the kitchen for treats; she hides in the house, while I panic, and then runs out giggling; she does the opposite of what I tell her to, and laughs hysterically when I get mad at her.

She always wants to kiss my "owies," and hold my hand when she is scared. She pats my cheeks, and tells me she loves me every day. She is the first one to give me loves when she knows I am feeling blue.

How I love this girl.

Emma Is On Etsy

Emma with her "pet" cricket. Oh, Joy!

Besides catching and collecting bugs this summer, Emma has started making several crafts! She is sewing "Tooth-Fairy" pillows, simple aprons, and other simple crafts. She is also painting, making necklaces, and will do whatever other little crafts she decides to do, all for you to purchase!

Check her out!!

She doesn't have anything listed yet, but she will soon. All the money she makes will go straight to her college fund.

Happy Birthday, Lou-La Girl

Emma's birthday started out with my traditional "Breakfast-in-Bed-Birthday-Cake:"

video

Actually, Emma's birthday started out at about 12:20 this morning, when she woke up and got out of bed. She had not taken her nap yesterday, and as usual, when she doesn't take a nap, she wakes up a few hours after going to bed. Usually, I am already in bed, and she just cuddles up next to me and goes right back to sleep. However, not finding me in bed, she stumbled out to the kitchen, where I was busily making her "breakfast birthday cake."

It was already her birthday, afterall, and so we began celebrating by watching part of "Horton Hears a Who" (her birthday present from me), until the cake was done. Happy Birthday, Emma Rosie girl!

After Birthday-Breakfast-in-Bed-Cake

This face melts my heart, every single day.

Today, of course, she melts me even a little more. Four years ago, I was sitting in Altru hospital, nursing for the first glorious time ever. I remember every single detail; The way she smelled; The look she gave me when I nursed her; I loved that blessed hospital, where they feed new mothers whatever they want, whenever they want it; I'll always appreciate that blessed nurse (Kris) who was at my beck and call throughout my entire (and that is saying something) labor, and who stayed long past her scheduled shift just to see me through; And that wonderful intern doctor, Doctor Sprock, who was better than any other doctor I have seen before or since; All to help me in my labor to bring this beautiful little girl into the world. There were many other wonderful things about that day, too, that I will never, ever forget.

Today has been a mellow, fun day. We started out with traditional breakfast birthday cake, just the girls and I. Tomorrow, family will come over, and celebrate with us.
Wednesday, we will go to Chuck E. Cheese for Emma's birthday present. Emma's best friend Collette will come with us, along with Aunties and Uncles. Basically it is a week of birthday celebration.
For today, however, her birthday requests were simple; Go see Grandma Rose and Grandpa Gary; Play Bambi and guys (Land Before Time); Watch Horton again; Camp in the living room.

Happy Birthday, Emma Rosetta Johnson!

Emma's Favorite Poem

SOMERSAULTS:
It's fun turning somersaults
and bouncing on the bed.
I walk on my hands
and I stand on my head.

I swing like a monkey
and I tumble and I shake.
I stretch and I bend,
but I never, never break.

I wiggle like a worm
and I wriggle like an eel.
I hop like a rabbit
and I flop like a seal.

I leap like a frog
and I jump like a flea,
there must be rubber
inside of me.

by Jack Prelutsky

Is it any wonder this poem is her favorite? I love my somersault girl!

Exactly Where We're Supposed To Be...

Cuddles with Auntie Camilla and Littlefoot. Both Littlefoots. (Emma is now Guido, and Elizabeth has taken on the role of Littlefoot).

My camera died on Easter, so this is one of only a few pictures I managed to get.

Painting and/or fingerpainting... a weekly tradition.

St. Patrick's Day... we had green eggs, green pancakes, green milk, and something else... I can't remember.

Emma steered my hand to help me frost the cake for Jer's birthday.

Grandma's party girl.

I still miss the green, but the warmth of New Mexico more than makes up for it. We love it here.

Sister love in Grandma's back-yard.

Chocolate CAKE!!

Pretty Christmas dresses from Grandma Johnson.

Life is so good. We know we are where we are supposed to be. When you know that, a peace comes into your life that no one can take away, and nothing can shatter. We have been so blessed, guided and protected. I am grateful to my Heavenly Father, my parents, and my siblings who all have loved us, supported and cared for us. We are exactly where we are supposed to be, even when it is hard.
